KWS wins the Douglas Shield again in 2009, plus 2 junior grand finals

Inwhat has already been described as the best season ever for KWScricket, the icing was put on the cake over the weekend as the seasondrew to a close. The KWS 1st XI dominated from start to finish in theDouglas Shield final again. The KWS batting lineup scored a mammothtotal of 280 from their 50 overs, with jason Date top scoring with awell constructed 65, Pat davis was again in top batting form scoring53, and Nathan Kerslake chipped in with the third half-ton of the day.The tearaway quicks again produced lightning spells to soften up thetop order bats from William Clarke College and then the spinners wereunleashed to turn the screws. John Somers took 3 wickets with theopposition falling well short of the total, being all out for only 113.This means they will travel to Sydney later in the year for theMacquarie Bank cup, a 'champion of champions' competition between thetop 8 teams around NSW.In the junior cricket end of season matches, KWShad FIVE teams competitng in grand finals over the weekend chasingglory. With all teams acquitting themselves well, it was the Under12's, Under 13's and Thirds who finished with premierships. The 12'swaited until there were only 8 balls left in the game to securevictory, and the thirds continued the dominance they have had in theircompetition all year, but the 13's did things in style wrapping up thegame with almost 3 hours to spare. The 14's and 15's were in the huntin their quests for victory, but as often happens in cricket thingsjust didn't go their way in the crucial moments.

In breaking news, KWS First XI player Chris Tremain was named as Orange Cricketer of the Year for 2009,beating out a host of big named players from the Central West for thehonour. Chris' proud grandparents (grandad is an ex-student) were onhand to see the great Douglas Shield victory and share in the greatmoment as this announcement was made. It was great to see so many parents and supporters at Grand finals atthe weekend.

Special thanks goes to all those parents who have assisted the coacheswith scoring and umpiring this season. The coaches and boys appreciate yoursupport. To all the 130 boys and coaches playing cricket in our 12 teams thanksfor your efforts this year and we hope to see you back in 2009-2010. Specialthanks to the ground-staff who work hard to look after the wickets and maintainthe magnificent grounds the boys get to play on.

All Saints were then dismissed for 79 with Angus Polhill taking 3-8 from 5 overs, Jackson Coote 3-27,Chris Tremain 2-19 from 7overs,John Somers 1-5. Highlight of the day was the well crafted century scored by James Conn. All Saints were wonderful hosts and their young team put us under some pressure early in the innings but Jame's innings provided the foundation for a great win.

CHRIS TREMAIN AND SANDY ROGERS SELECTED for NSW

Sandy Rogers and Chris Tremain will open the bowling for NSW in the National Schoolboys Carnival to be held in Brisbane in early December 2009. To have two boys make a NSW in the one year is a fantastic achievement. The all Kinross Wolaroi opening NSW attack is indeed a first for the school. Chris cemented his place in the squad with a fine display of pace bowling at SCG in Victor Trumper Day victory over Endeavour Sports High School. Sandy played in this team last year and continues to impress NSW selectors making the final trial for the NSW Under 19 team last weekend. Chris has also been selected for the Western Open Men's Team to contest the NSW COUNTRY championships later in the season. Both boys early season form for Kinross 1ST X1 has been instrumental in some great wins in the ODCA first grade.
