  • Derek Pigot Farewell Dinner - A Night to Remember

    21 November, 2009

A wonderful evening of stories and celebration occurred as Kinross Wolaroi farewelled Derek Pigot after 29 years as Chairman of Kinross Wolaroi School Council.

With the three most recent Principals - Mr Kennelly, Rev Williams and Mr Anderson in attendance, Mr Pigot was toasted and cheered as speeches outlined his enormous impact on the success of the school.

Highlight of the evening was the speech from Mr Pigot himself, as he spoke from the heart - some say with a tear in his eye - about his love of the school, and especially of the students. A presentation was made to Derek of a painted portrait, that will hang in the school as a reminder of his guidance of the school over the past three decades.

Mr Pigot himself made a presentation to the school - two framed quotations, one to the staff and one to the students. These will hang proudly in prominent places around the school, as a reminder of Derek's famous words to 'unashamedly strive for excellence."

  • The Debutante Ball - a stunning evening!

    15 November, 2009

Saturday evening November 14th saw Kinross Wolaroi hold its annual Debutante Ball at the Orange function centre. 24 debutantes and their partners had worked for more than three months, learning how to dance, how to be presented and were instructed in the traditions of days gone by. National Champion Amateur ballroom dancers Bruce and Rebecca Southwood were the instructors, with the 48 students involved in the process enjoying themselves at a level they had thought impossible when rehearsals started in August. A prefect performance of the Debutante Waltz by all 48 participants was followed by two circuits of the Pride of Erin, with many from the audience joining in this well-known traditional dance.

A crowd of more than 350 had packed the Function Centre, and they cheered loudly in appreciation and admiration of the hard work and efforts put in by all students, as the entire evening progressed without a single hiccough.

As a reward for the wonderful progress made by the debs at their dance rehearsals, the instructors taught the students a progressive barn dance. This turned out to be the highlight of the evening as the debs and their partners 'grooved' to the sound of Guy Sebastian, moving from partner to partner. The dancefloor was soon awash with participants, as the appreciative crowd joined in the fun of the progressive dance.

Special mention must go to event manager extraordinaire, Mrs Sally Rattray-Wood, who organised a successful, lively and seamless Ball.

  • The Music Festival reaches New Heights

    15 November, 2009

Friday evening November 13th saw the Orange Civic Thetre come to life as the extremely talented musicians of our school put on a show that left the audience in awe.

From the humour of the 'Gravel Truck Choir' to the power of the Stage band, to the precision of the orchestra, the tastes of all musical fans was catered for. The individual brilliance of Rachael Kwa, Ashley Snare and James Gray was complemented by the cohesion and smoothnees of the Chamber Strings, the Wyven singers and Saxophone ensemble.

Compoer Frank Gosper's public speaking skills were on display, and when Mr Kennelly announced Will Collett as Captain of Music for 2010, a great evening was complete. Congratulations must go to each and every musician involved for their valuable contribution for a wonderfully enjoyable night.
