Local Win for KWS Debaters
3 August, 2017
The Kinross Wolaroi School Senior Debating team participated in the Mayor’s Cup Debating Competition which was held at the Orange Council Chambers on Thursday the 3rd of August. This is a local competition and focuses on District issues and ideas. Other teams participating in the competition included the Canobolas Rural Technology High School, Orange High School and the Orange Christian School.
The KWS team prepared a debate based on the topic, ‘That the population of Orange should be capped at 40 000’with KWS arguing in the affirmative. The team was successful in this round.
The team then debated in the final as the negative side. The topic for the final was that ‘ A quota-rule should be introduced at local council elections to ensure more women, young people and people from ethnically diverse backgrounds are elected.’
This year, the competition also included the presentation of the Kerri Parkes Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding individual debater.
We are pleased to announce that the KWS team consisting of Jamie Abiassaf, Lachlan Cisco, Ailish Seedsman and Ruby Niven won the Mayor's Cup Trophy for 2017.
Ailish Seedsman is to be congratulated on being presented with the Kerri Parkes Memorial Trophy for the Most Outstanding Individual Debater.
Congratulations to all involved on a fantastic result!
