Our Orange Our Schools Art Project
8 September, 2017
The Orange City Centre recently initiated a community engagement project whereby the local Primary Schools in Orange were invited to participate in the ‘Our Orange Our Schools’ Art Program, utilising the vacant space that formerly lead from the Orange City Centre into the old Myer entrance, for meaningful art work.
Our Orange Our Schools Art Program is designed to farewell the past and herald the future and celebrate what makes our town of Orange so special. All participating schools receive a donation to the school and will be designing and painting a piece of artwork on a 5m x 2.5m banner. The artworks are displayed for a period of approximately four weeks for their chance to be declared the overall winner, by a panel of independent judges, for a $1000 Grand Prize donation to the school.
KWS teacher, Mrs Carolyn Key, who has been coordinating the KWS Preparatory School artwork, said “the KWS artwork depicts the most important aspect of our school – the people. At Kinross Wolaroi School we have a wide range of backgrounds represented in our population but we all come together to make a dynamic place of learning where we aspire to achieve and develop our motto ‘Knowledge, Friendship, Integrity’.”
“The colours used represent the gorgeous colours that our school displays in the distinct seasons: the white of winter snow, the pink of spring Cherry blossoms, the yellow, orange, red and brown of the autumn Liquid amber leaves and the greens of summer Dutch elm and English elm trees. We are fortunate to have such a beautiful and changing landscape to live and learn in. Kinross Wolaroi School is a microcosm of the broader community of Orange and as such mimics its values, people and stunning landscape."
The KWS Preparatory artwork will be on display until early October.
