Pastoral Care at KWS

Kinross Wolaroi School prides itself on being a family-centred school based on Christian values and teaching. We strive to ensure a secure, happy and fun place where learning is enriched through practical experience and students and staff are supportive of one another's interests and needs.

Staff from various school groups work together to assist in the Pastoral Care for our students. These include the Tutor Houses, the Anti-Bullying Committee, the Student Counsellor, the Year 7 Coordinator, mentors of Year 12 students, the Community Service Programme and Peer Support Groups.

The Tutor House System is designed to create a Pastoral Care 'headquarters' for each student. In addition, this programme helps to provide students with a smooth transition into their new environment. Positive role models are selected to look after and heighten school spirit, a Year 7 Coordinator takes a special interest in the Year 7 students by helping them swiftly settle in to secondary studies. Lockers are provided for every student and the Year 7 Coordinator has an office nearby. Parents are provided with information seminars to help them deal with the transition of their child into the Secondary School.

A Staff Mentoring Programme helps the Year 12 students through the HSC with the maximum of support to minimise anxiety.  One-on-one meetings of mentor and student are held on a regular basis to offer guidance and advice throughout the final year of studies.

A philanthropic attitude is developed in students through student fund-raising for worthy causes.  Tutor and Boarding Houses collect money throughout the year by holding mufti days and cake stalls, to name a few. Currently we support two World Vision students and a school in Rwanda; the students and staff take part in the annual Red Cross Blood Bank challenge, support Jeans for Genes, Legacy and various other local, national and international charities.
