Student Life

Student Leadership

Student leadership is a critical component of Kinross Wolaroi School. There are many pathways students can follow to develop leadership skills. Student leaders are a cornerstone of the individual components of the school. As Prefects, House Captains or Seniors within the Boarding or Tutor houses, on the sporting field, as Peer Support leaders, as Seniors in Music or as Officers in Cadets Unit, students practise leadership and experience the challenges leadership involves.

Student leadership is valued and recognised at all levels.  All senior students are invited to undertake leadership training and can elect to take on leadership roles and the associated responsibilities.  A leadership executive group composed of representatives from all areas of the School represents the student body. Performance within these leadership roles is reflected in comments on school references and school reports.  Each student's life can be enriched by the provision of these opportunities for the development of initiative, character, personality, sportsmanship, leadership and unselfishness.

Head Boy Prefect Simon Basha's Speech from the Student Leaders Induction Ceremony

"scientia, amicitia, integritas - knowledge, friendship and integrity, three values which this school holds with such high regard it became our our new school motto. Although this motto was only officially adopted just a few months ago, it has been the unwritten epithet of our long established ethos for several decades. When suggestions were requested for the new school motto, most of them included at least one of the three words - knowledge, friendship or integrity. Almost all of them included the word "integrity". Integrity is the quality of having high moral principles. It is the quality of being united. Kinross Wolaroi draws on students with a great variety of life experiences. Each student contributes his or her individual talent and personal quality. If we all combine and aspire to having integrity then success will follow. Over the next three terms Amelia, Christina, David, the rest of the prefect team, the house captains and I will do our utmost to serve the students - the school, with our minds set to the framework established by the years of success of Kinross Wolaroi, summarised by our motto - scientia, amicitia, integritas - knowledge, friendship, integrity.
Thank you"
