Senior Curriculum

Curriculum

Students who enter the Senior School in Year 7 face the challenges and excitement of having a variety of teachers instead of one, a new set of subjects to engage with, and a new peer group with whom to bond and form friendships.

However, perhaps what is most exciting is the opportunity to choose free electives in Years 9 and 10 from a diverse range of subjects that suit the interests of each student.

The Senior School has an excellent reputation for high academic achievement. We work hard to ensure that all students maximise their potential. With dedicated teachers, stimulating lessons and a sound structure for revision and preparation, each student is well set to approach the Higher School Certificate examinations with confidence.

Years 7 and 8 (Stage 4)

The curriculum in Years 7 and 8 is mandated by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and is delivered at Kinross Wolaroi School in the following way:

Mandatory Subjects:
  • English

Years 9 and 10 (Stage 5)

The School requires Year 9 and Year 10 students to study mandatory subjects while allowing students to pursue three free electives:

Mandatory Subjects:
  • English
  • Mathematics

  • PDHPE
  • History and Geography
  • Religious Education

It is important to be mindful that some subjects such as French Continuers and Latin Continuers cannot be studied in Stage 6 (Years 11 and 12) if they have not been studied in Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) as the foundation knowledge gained in the middle school years for these subjects is the basis for senior study.

Students wishing to study subjects such as Industrial Technology, Music, Visual Arts, Textiles and Drama in Stage 6, may find that the skills learned and practised in Stage 5 will be beneficial (but they are not prerequisites).

Years 11 and 12 (Stage 6)

NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) mandates that students must study a minimum of 12 units in Year 11 and a minimum of 10 units in Year 12. There are many ways a student at Kinross Wolaroi School can achieve this through a wide variety of subjects with over 30 subjects to choose from.
