Pre-Kinder

Establishing Strong Learning Foundations

Each day at Kinross Wolaroi School Pre-Kinder is fun and engaging. The children learn and play in a safe and stimulating environment, guided by qualified and motivated educators.

We provide opportunities for the children to explore their creativity, develop a strong sense of self-esteem, grow in confidence, and fulfil their potential. We encourage them to become independent thinkers while also developing their collaboration and teamwork skills.

The intimate environment at Pre-Kinder allows us to have a close, positive relationship with every child and their family.

Early Childhood Philosophy

We value Early Childhood Education as the foundation for lifelong learning. The early years are critical in terms of development, children learn and grow at a phenomenal rate. With this in mind, we believe it is important for children to be in an environment that is consistent and secure. Our role is to provide children in our care with a loving comfortable, safe and stimulating atmosphere, allowing the children to grow into capable, confident people enhancing their understanding of the world around them.

It is important to think of the children in terms of a whole group, building relationships and social skills, learning empathy and understanding towards those around them. We think of the children as unique individuals, taking into account their needs and interests and giving them opportunities to express themselves without judgement. An optimum level of care and education needs to be maintained for all children.

Being an Early Childhood educator is challenging but extremely rewarding. Seeing the world through a child’s eyes is very special and keeps us very grounded. We feel lucky everyday to do what we do.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Early Stage One in literacy and numeracy. We also use the Early Years Framework and Learning Trajectories to support our teaching as we extend and enrich children’s learning.

The teacher spends significant time planning activities that are fun, challenging and create a love of learning. Each term we focus on learning outcomes for the developmentalareas: cognitive, social, language, gross motor, and fine motor skills. Our indoor, outdoor and group time programs reflect these outcomes.

Integral to the Pre-Kinder program is the involvement of specialist teachers. Each week the children can participate in music, library, P.E. and art. These activities have an important role in the program, ensuring a child’s holistic growth. They can improve academic performance by stimulating creative thought.
