Round Square

Regional Heart, Global Spirit

Kinross Wolaroi School became a member of Round Square in 2021. Round Square is an internationally diverse network of 200 like-minded schools in 50 countries on six continents that connect and collaborate to offer world-class programmes and experiences, developing global competence, character and confidence in our students. We are like-minded in our shared understanding of the hardwired link between character education and academic success. We also believe that in order to equip our students for positive, active and engaged global citizenship we must offer them more than academic knowledge and qualifications.

The educational philosophy Round Square is based on the teachings of Kurt Hahn who founded Salem School, Gordonstoun School, Outward Bound and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

“I regard it as the foremost task of education to insure the survival of these qualities: an enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self-denial, and above all, compassion.”
– Kurt Hahn.

Round Square schools share a commitment to character education and experiential learning built around six themes – our ideals – International Understanding, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership and Service.

Membership of the Round Square provides opportunities for our students to travel as exchange students to other schools in Australia and overseas and to participate in international projects initiated by any of the member schools. Each year staff and students attend the junior and senior Australian schools conference and the international conference. Conferences provide opportunities to listen to guest speakers, debrief with other students, gain an understanding of other cultures and step outside one’s comfort zone.  Activities closer to home will also provide students with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, to collaborate with other schools on in-class projects and participate in service and adventure activities.

Exchange programs are an important part of the Round Square program, providing national and international experiences and perspectives for students. To find out more, go to the International Student Exchange Program page or the National Student Exchange Program page. The School also offers students from Years 9 to 12 the ability to participate in The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
