The Malcolm Lampe Scholarship for boys

Background

Malcolm Frederick “Mallee” Lampe was a respected grazier and community member with deep ties to the Coonamble district of north-western New South Wales. Associated with the historic property Nebea South, Malcolm belonged to a longstanding pastoral family whose connection to Coonamble stretches back multiple generations.

Malcolm was known for his integrity, resilience and commitment to rural life. He remained closely connected to local agricultural affairs and gave 54 years of volunteer service to the NSW Rural Fire Service through the Pinegrove Brigade. His life reflected a deep commitment to family, community and regional Australia.

The Scholarship

The Malcolm Lampe Scholarship for Boys has been established to honour Malcolm’s legacy by providing a life-changing educational opportunity for a young man from Country New South Wales whose family would not otherwise be in a position to access a Kinross Wolaroi School education.

The scholarship will support a boarding student entering Year 9 and is intended to enable the recipient to participate fully in the academic, boarding and co-curricular life of the School.

The Awardee

The successful student will demonstrate strong personal character and the values of resilience, integrity and commitment. He will show academic, co-curricular or other relevant schooling potential, and a willingness to engage fully in boarding and school life.

Scholarship Inclusions

The scholarship provides comprehensive support for Years 9 to 12, subject to satisfactory progress and engagement. Support may include:

•     Tuition fees

•     Boarding fees

•     Uniforms

•     Textbooks and learning resources

•     Laptop or device provision

•     Approved co-curricular participation costs.

Nomination and Selection

Scholarship candidates must be nominated by a referee, who may be a parent, principal, educator, community leader, coach or other person who knows the student and family.

Community nominations are encouraged so that deserving students who may not put themselves forward are identified and supported through the process.

Selection will include a review of nomination material and supporting documentation, followed by an interview with the student and parent or caregiver. Demonstrated financial need is the primary criterion. Other considerations include character, potential, engagement in school life and alignment with the values of Kinross Wolaroi School.
